Bursaries at Magdalen College School

We are committed to ensuring an MCS education is open to the brightest pupils, no matter their personal circumstances. We do this by offering financial help with school fees, known as a ‘bursary’, to families.

Offering substantial help with fees is a core part of our mission to ensure that people of all backgrounds can benefit from the transformative education MCS provides.

Our Admissions team are here to guide you through the process of applying for a school bursary, but you may find our bursaries booklet and the frequently asked questions below helpful in the meantime.

How to apply and key dates

Register your child

Complete the online Registration Form for your child to sit our entrance assessments and indicate on the form that you require more information about bursaries (help with fees):

  • By 30 September for Sixth Form.
  • By 31 October for all other Senior School year groups

Complete the Bursary Online Form

You will be sent a link to the Bursary Application Form as soon as it is available. Please complete this:

  • By 31 October for Sixth Form
  • By 6 November for all other Senior School year groups

Means-testing and questions

Means-testing is conducted in partnership with a third party Bursary Assessment Associates.  BAA assess each family’s financial situation and provide MCS with a report. Once your online form has been received, a representative from BAA will either visit you at home or meet with you online to ensure that we fully understand your circumstances and application.

Find out if you have been awarded a bursary

You will find out if you have been awarded a bursary when we contact you to confirm whether your child has been offered a place to study at MCS.

Where the timetable allows, we will tell you if you don’t qualify for a bursary before your child takes their entrance assessment – giving you the option to withdraw them if you wish.

Parents should be aware that being offered a place at the School does not automatically mean a bursary will be offered as well.

The application process is covered in detail in our Financial Assistance with Fees Policy.

"The opportunities and experiences which he has benefitted from are not only things which he would not have been exposed to anywhere else, but they are exactly the same as every other pupil, regardless of background."
