The Waynflete Office has been informed of the death of Paul Marriott at the age of 85. We are grateful for these words provided by Paul’s son, Daniel:

My father was very proud of his time at MCS, keeping in touch with several school friends over the subsequent years, even those who now live across the globe. He spoke of his time at the school which he remembered fondly. As well as his academic success, he enjoyed many sports including rowing, fencing, cricket and rugby. He kept his school boater, tie and cricket bat to the end. We hope the current students appreciate the excellent opportunity attending MCS brings, the lifelong friends they make and that they enjoy their time as Paul did.

After he completed his studies, he was a keen traveller before settling to farming which was a childhood love from family connections. He enjoyed 20 years of retirement with a keen interest in studying flora, astronomy and particularly bell ringing, passionate about training the next generation of ringers in this traditional British pastime. Paul helped to maintain and assisted with the fundraising for several local bell towers, donating a new bell to his village church as a legacy for generations to come. Keen to discuss politics and current affairs with his wide range of friends, he kept his wits to the end. The local community was very important to Paul, and he felt fortunate to live in a beautiful rural village in Warwickshire for over 50 years.
