Andrew’s widow Julie informed the school that he had died on 11 June 2013.

The following obituary appeared on the legacy.com website:

Andrew was the devoted father of Matthew and Clare, and husband of 25 years to the love of his life, Julie. He was the son of the late Sir Richard and Lady Sheila Southern of Oxford, England. His brother Peter of Italy survives him. Andrew graduated in History and Economics from Trinity College at Cambridge University and earned an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. Before moving to California in 1983, he lived in Bordeaux, Paris, and Rome where he met many of his lifelong friends. His early career included Yachting 2000, Ford Motor Company, Bendix and Amdahl. At the time of his death Andrew was CEO of SpiraLinks, a web-based application company, with offices in Silicon Valley, the UK and India, which he founded with his wife Julie in 1995.

Andrew was a passionate, intelligent and enthusiastic man who lived life to the fullest. Throughout his life Andrew was a student of history and fine wine and an active skier, sailor, oarsman and gardener. He was known as a humorous, generous friend and a compassionate family man – proud that his greatest accomplishments were his children. Although our hearts are heavy with the loss of Andrew, our lives have been so enriched by his example of a life well lived.
