This past Saturday, we were delighted to welcome pupils participating in The Bridge programme to MCS for a special music-themed session. Led by SingOxford, the musical workshop offered pupils an inspiring and enjoyable introduction to collaborative singing.

SingOxford works to bring together the diverse singing communities across the city. By partnering with university musicians and local schools, they aim to make vocal music accessible and foster a sense of connection through shared musical experiences.

Their involvement on Saturday gave pupils an introduction to the discipline and enjoyment of a cappella singing, as a cappella groups from Oxford University were on hand to guide pupils through a series of vocal techniques. Together they explored rhythm, harmony, and the teamwork required to sing successfully as an ensemble.

As the pupils’ confidence rose, the workshop concluded with a short performance in which they shared the pieces they had practiced – a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate their progress.

We are grateful to SingOxford for their collaboration on this enriching session for pupils of The Bridge programme. Run by MCS for high achieving Year 5 pupils from local primary schools, The Bridge offers monthly Saturday enrichment lessons designed to nurture talent, develop intellectual curiosity, and introduce pupils to new academic and co curricular experiences. This weekend’s singing session was a vibrant example of the programme’s aim to broaden horizons and inspire confidence.
