Yesterday’s Eton Rapidplay Tournament proved to be an exciting and closely fought competition for our chess team, who rose to the challenge and  once again secured first place, successfully defending their title against strong opposition.

Every member of the squad contributed to this achievement. On the top boards, Yichen and Dima (both Upper Sixth) delivered outstanding performances, securing wins against some of the strongest junior players in the country. Their composure under pressure set the tone for the rest of the team. Stepping in as reserves, Gavin (Third Form) and Jamie (Upper Sixth) rose to the occasion and earned vital points that proved crucial to the final standings. Meanwhile, Haider and Tom (both Fifth Form) impressed in their first appearance at the event, showing confidence and strong play throughout the day.

The standout moment of the tournament came from Noah (Third Form). Having played consistently well from the start, he faced a tense and high‑pressure endgame in the final round—one of the last games still in play and surrounded by spectators. His determination and accurate technique secured the win the team needed to clinch first place overall.

It was a superb effort from all involved, and we’re is incredibly proud of their teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship.
