MCS Drama headed outdoors to the banks of the River Cherwell this week for our annual Field Play. A highlight of the performance calendar, this year’s production is The Tempest – and we wonder if the spirits of Prospero and Ariel were at work on opening night, when an unexpected summer shower sent the performance indoors!

Set in the 17th century and featuring striking period costumes, pupils successfully captured the magic and mystery of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays. Memorable performances brought to life the mischievous Ariel, the rebellious Caliban, and Prospero’s daughter, Miranda, as the plotlines of power, forgiveness and humanity unfolded.

With brighter weather now forecast, there is still time to enjoy this year’s production. The final performances take place tonight (Thursday), and with warm, sunny weather expected, audiences can look forward to a memorable evening of outdoor theatre by the river.

Whether you are a lifelong Shakespeare enthusiast or discovering The Tempest for the first time, we hope you will join us for a performance.
