This morning, the Junior School gathered to observe the Chinese New Year. Organised by Mrs Sun, the event provided a thoughtful look at the traditions associated with the Year of the Horse.
The assembly began with the J4 choir performing the traditional song, “Gong Xi Gong Xi.” The pupils accompanied their singing with a variety of instruments, including some traditional Chinese pieces, which added a thoughtful layer to the performance.
The quiz on Chinese New Year proved to be a highlight, bringing a lively energy to the assembly. It was wonderful to see so many eager hands raised as the pupils looked to share what they had learned about the festival’s history.
The morning concluded with a traditional lion dance, accompanied by a musical trio. A highlight for many was the moment the lion distributed symbolic “lucky money” to the pupils, a gesture intended to bring good fortune for the year ahead.
It was an engaging and educational start to the day, offering a meaningful way for both staff and pupils to celebrate the new year together.
