Congratulations to all the pupils who graduated from The Bridge this weekend. It was great to welcome them, and their families, to Big School for a special ceremony and presentation by the Master.
Since January 2024, the pupils have taken part in the programme, designed to develop intellectual curiosity, nurture talent and promote a passion for learning. Spending one Saturday morning a month at MCS, they have worked with our staff on a curriculum of maths and English extension, sport, music or drama, plus a guest academic subject – which this year included economics, computing and engineering. In the summer, they enjoyed a fantastic visit to Magdalen College and had a tour from some current students, followed by lunch in the Rose Garden.
Many have made the most of the dedicated Bridge library, borrowing books and swapping recommendations of favourite reads. Thanks to the generosity of the MCS parent who funds The Bridge, the graduates were gifted their own copy of Swanfall by Sophie Kirtley as a keepsake of their experience. They also received Boggle and a Blackwells voucher, with a list of suggested books.
Helen Pike, Master, said: “We are enormously proud of the 39 Year 6 pupils who graduated from The Bridge programme. It has been rewarding to see their confidence grow with the passing weeks. Whether they join MCS or another senior school in the future, their experience on The Bridge will have helped prepare them to make the most of what lies ahead.”

Pupils are nominated to join The Bridge by their primary school. We look at all pupils’ work and offer places to those we believe will benefit most from the programme. If you would like to hear more about The Bridge, please email Jo Pick, Programme Co-ordinator.
