Over the summer holiday, MCS pupils and staff enjoyed an unforgettable trip to Uganda. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit to our partner school, Mustardseed Junior School, as well as an opportunity to learn more about this fascinating country.

The trip began with some incredible cultural highlights. Stopping briefly at a mango farm to try fresh juice, the pupils were taken on a game drive in the Murchison Falls National Park, where they were lucky to see some of the Big Five as well as a wonderful array of other animals and tropical birds. After Murchison, they headed to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to learn more about some of Uganda’s efforts to protect the white rhino.

The most memorable part of the visit was spent at Mustardseed. We have been privileged to be involved in Mustardseed’s journey since its launch in 2022 and MCS pupils continue to raise money for the school every year. Founded to provide an inspirational and practical education for young people, Mustardseed now educates around 180 pupils. With a similar ethos to MCS, it is dedicated to high-quality education, rigorously following the Ugandan curriculum, while also developing creativity, curiosity and leadership skills. The setting could not be more different to ours in Oxford, however, and MCS pupils loved spending time learning about its eco set-up and on-site farm. There were many opportunities for staff from the two schools to share ideas and educational practice, and for pupils to get to know one another better – often over a game of football!

The trip was a wonderful experience for pupils and staff and a fantastic opportunity to cement our much-cherished relationship with Mustardseed. Thank you Mustardseed for welcoming us to your school and country!
