On Saturday, it was wonderful to welcome our fifth cohort of pupils taking part in The Bridge, kicking off their involvement in our award-winning enrichment programme for local primary school children in Year 5.
42 pupils from 19 different schools had been put forward by their headteacher to take part. During their first session they were given a goodie bag of useful equipment and a tee-shirt to wear when they visit.
Funded by an MCS family, The Bridge was recognised by the Independent Schools of the Year awards in 2024, in the category of Contribution to Social Mobility. The programme offers high-achieving pupils extension lessons in maths, English, a co-curricular subject of sport, music or drama, and a guest academic subject. Last year’s pupils had a taste of economics, computing and engineering – and also enjoyed learning the African drum in music.
Parents of pupils taking part last year described The Bridge as “inspirational” and 91% said their child was more confident in maths, reading and literacy. Others said:
It is fantastic to see our largest ever group get started and we cannot wait to see their progress over the coming year!
