On Thursday 5 March the Junior School celebrated World Book Day, dressing as their favourite characters ahead of a packed schedule of literary-themed events at school.

Pupils started the day with a book-themed assembly with short presentations from groups of boys about the 5 books they are reading in the Oxfordshire Book Award Club.

The boys then went back to classrooms to write quatrains about a ‘special place’ on leaf templates which have then been displayed on our poet-tree in the hall, before spending break in a frenzied search to locate the golden tickets hidden around the school!

After break the boys attended a reading carousel session and listened to a teacher read an extract from a book or a short story:

The final session of the morning was spent drawing one item from a book of their choice, which they felt represented that story. The literary motifs will be displayed together to create a literary landscape collage. At the end of the day, parents were invited in to enjoy a temporary display in the hall of all of the pupils’ hard work.

As well as the pupils’ costumes, the Junior School staff embraced the spirit of World Book Day fully with some very creative dressing up:

"We had a fun-filled day celebrating all things ‘books’ and the boys entered into it with enthusiasm: amazing costumes, reflective poetry and extraordinary artwork! A fabulous day enjoyed by all!"
