MCS sailors came out on top against a field of 18 school sides at the Southern Schools Team Racing Championships.
In the first stage MCS 1 beat Sherbourne, Canford, Oxford Team Racing Association and MCS 2, but dropped races to Tonbridge and Winchester 2.
Meanwhile MCS 2 beat
Sherborne, Eton and Clifton B, but lost to RGS Guildford, Wellington and MCS 1.
In the subsequent stage MCS 2 won all of their races in the bronze league,
beating Sherborne again as well as Clifton A and local rivals Oxford Team
Racing Association to win their league and finish 10th.
MCS 1 managed to progress from the silver league into the semi-final by beating Canford, RGS and Claire’s Court, then in the semi-beat an undefeated Tonbridge side 2-0. This was more like it. The final – a repeat of last year – pitted Winchester A against MCS 1, and Magdalen showed great tenacity and composure to come from 1-0 down to win the final 2-1.
