Drumming fun

J1 enjoyed a morning of African Drumming in Big School, where they learned how to play the djembe and dundun drums.

The workshop was run by Justine and Barry of the Hartbeats African Drumming Company. They had just returned from Senegal where they learn new rhythms each year. Justine has been going to the same village since 1998.

She presented photos and videos to the boys to get them in the mood and demonstrated the playing of the drums, before it was the boys turn to have a go at playing. They learnt two different rhythms on the djembe and had lots of fun making plenty of noise!

The second session was spent learning some African dancing, which was a new experience for everyone! There was a grand final performance at the end of the workshop, showcasing what the boys had learnt over the course of the highly entertaining workshop.
