Medea an all-student success
Early this term, Big School played host to Magdalen's third annual Classical Play, but with a difference. Euripides' 'Medea' became the first production to feature an entirely MCS mixed cast. The play, directed by Tom Lodge of the L6th and Miss Lucy Jackson (who is undertaking her graduate studies at Corpus Christi College), was a resounding success, and was played to packed audiences, over two nights. Lizzie Reavley's chillingly convincing Medea was ably supported by a cast of boys and girls from the U4th, 5th and L6th Forms, whose superb acting was complemented by equally excellent direction. Performed amidst a series of lectures and workshops, which featured Professor Judith Mossman of the University of Nottingham, and Dr Fiona Macintosh of the Archive of the Performance of Greek and Roman Drama, this highly charged and compelling tragedy became testament to the astounding thespian talent available at MCS as well as stamina of all involved putting on such a marvellous show with five weeks of casting and rehearsal.
