MCS WINS NATIONAL MATHS TEAM CHALLENGE
Congratulations to Eddy Grogan, Freddie Illingworth, Alex Gunasekera and Stephen Jones who have triumphed at the National Maths Team Challenge and beaten 80 other schools to take the title.
The National Final took place on Monday in London and the MCS boys were in the top five at the end of each round. They were supervised throughout the day by a teacher from another school who commented on their speed and knowledge. Freddie solved one question, designed to take the team five minutes, in seconds. In the final round, the difficult cross number section, the time allocation had to be halved, but our team scored a staggering 59/60.
The Maths Team Challenge, run by UKMT, started in 2002. It is designed to set challenging maths problems throughout a number of qualifying rounds. Over seventy regional rounds were held in February and March, each with about 30 teams competing. MCS won the Oxford final and therefore qualified for the National Final.
The boys returned delighted with their success and bearing trophies and prizes for themselves and the school. Well done to all.
