Oxbridge Offers - February 2010

The current haul of 32 offers from Oxford and Cambridge is the largest since 1986 when 33 boys received offers, which in turn surpassed the previous high of 28 in 1981.

These offers were achieved despite an increase in numbers applying to Oxford and Cambridge (by 12% and 1.3% respectively).

U14 Hockey success - 9th February 2010

The MCS U14 Hockey Team has qualified for the regional round of the National Schools Hockey Competition after coming runners up in the Oxfordshire County Cup.  A very skilful and determined side started well, beating St Edwards 5-1 and then Bloxham 3-0.  They fought a close game with Radley but lost 1-0.  A 3-0 win over Abingdon saw MCS secure second place and qualification to the South of England round.  This is the second year that the MCS U14 team has gone through to the South round, last year winning and continuing to the national finals.  This year the team are preparing for the South round on a half term hockey camp coached by seven Olympic hockey players from England and Australia.  The future for this team looks very exciting.

J4 Poetry - February 2010

Pupils in J4 have recently produced an anthology of writing on the First World War. J4 parents and boys voted Jerome Gasson’s poem ‘Tasting Death’ as their favourite piece of writing. It was a mark of how difficult it was to choose a winner by the fact that some twenty poems were nominated by the voters to be in first or second place.

Snow! - 8th January 2010

Getting to school was snow joke for this young band of Antarctic explorers! Having made the journey on this frosty Friday they were enthralled with tales of Scott's expedition and so they set out to make the most of their icey lunchtime - I think you'll agree, they did a fantastic job! Miss Liddiard and Mr Lemoine were more than happy to lend some expertise!
