MCS chess players have started the season in confident form. Both the U18A and U11A teams have reached the third round of the National Schools Team Championships, this following wins over Abingdon U18 'A' and 'B' teams. They now face each other for a place in the zonal final!

Matthew Daggitt and Ben Thorne defended their World Exchange Chess title in London in October in the second year of this new competition.

In the Oxon Schools League, our U11A team remains at the top of the table after two wins, and our teams in the senior Oxford and District League are both faring well (the 2nd team lying second at the time of writing).

Earlier in the term, several MCS boys performed well in the Godalming Open. Second former Jack Bancroft was the Open Champion, while Daniel d'Souza-Eva was the U12 champion in the Oxfordshire Junior Chess Tournament, held in November.
