The extra-curricular opportunities in the Junior School are extensive, and every pupil is encouraged to make use of them fully. Sport boasts a clear philosophy of sport for all. The emphasis is on everyone being given the opportunity to enjoy and improve their skills and last year there were more sporting fixtures played than there were pupils in the school. Despite our size, we have a number of county-level players, and excellent records against local preparatory and primary schools. Football, rugby, hockey, cricket, tennis and athletics are taught, along with a range of other sports. Clubs are held before and after school, and tours occur in most years.

Most pupils learn at least one musical instrument, and there is a range of ensembles and choirs who meet every week. Events are held with other schools, and there are regular informal concerts. An impressive House Music competition includes opportunities for parents and other family members to join their children for small groups. there are very strong links with Magdalen College Choir: all of its choristers are MCS pupils.

Recent drama productions have included The Wizard of Oz and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Jacqueline du Pré Building at St Hilda's College, Frankenstein and Dracula.

Chess is played to a high standard, with teams and individuals playing at national level.

There are many other clubs and activities, from stop-motion animation to the Magdalen Blazer, a newspaper written, researched, edited and produced by the pupils.
