| Many pupils need extra help with particular aspects of their learning at some stage in their school career. MCS places a high priority on the need to provide the best possible support for pupils with special educational needs: we wish to ensure that no boy's academic progress is held back by any kind of learning difficulty.
Close communication between form tutors, parents and subject teachers, combined with regular assessment, helps us to recognise when additional support may be needed. For Junior School pupils, boys are screened in year 5, boys are tested in other years where appropriate. In addition, there is provision for assessment by a fully qualified Educational Psychologist, who visits every term.
Once an assessment has been made, a boy may receive additional one-to one teaching sessions for as long as it is considered necessary. Support and help is also given to boys with learning difficulties by specialist subject teachers in the school and can also be arranged with outside agencies.
An Individual Education Plan is drawn up for all pupils on the Learning Support roll which enables the tutor and teachers to provide the necessary support and help.
