About Us

The Senior School is for boys aged 11-16 and (from September 2010) boys and girls aged 16-18 in the Sixth Form.  The main ages of entry are at 11, 13 and 16.  Places at other stages may sometimes be available.

The school has a uniquely privileged location as a consequence of its historic foundation.  As both school and college grew, the school moved a stone's throw over the Cherwell, where its occupies a twenty acre site facing the Botanical Gardens and adjoining St Hilda's College.  This includes the idyllic School Field, one of Wisden's ten most beautiful English grounds, and a set of purpose built premises, from School House designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield in 1893, to the New Building, opened in 2008, and containing the Dining Hall and Senior Common Room.

MCS's identity as a university school also gives it unique access to a whole range of university facilities.  Services are held not only in the College chapel but also in the University Church.  Concerts take place in the Sheldonian Theatre and Holywell Music Room, where Haydn and Handel respectively performed.  Sporting venues include the University Sports Centre at Iffley Road, and the sports grounds of Christ Church, Magdalen and Trinity.

The school is under the overall direction of the Master, Dr Timothy Hands, assisted by the Usher, Mr James Hodgson, and by a dedicated Common Room of highly qualified staff.  There are three parts to its operation.  These are the Pastoral, the Academic and the Extra-Curricular.  In the Inspection of 2007 each was graded outstanding.  This section of the website has a section devoted to each of them.  It also contains Policies and Job Vacancies.
